The Bolivian legend of Chiriguana tells of the rivalry between two brothers, Tupaete and Aguara-tumá, representing good and evil. Jealous of Tupaete's creation, Aguara-tumá sets the region on fire, forcing the Chiranguanos to take refuge in the rivers. Tupaete, foreseeing disaster, chooses the strongest to take shelter in a giant grass until the adversity passes. After the ordeal, they are given the gift of controlling fire from the Cane Toad, allowing them to prosper.
