Mercator's Cylindrical Projection: In 1569, Mercator published a world map in which he used this type of projection for the first time.
Place the sheet of paper around the globe. The covered surface is projected onto the sheet that is unrolled. Polar regions appear disproportionately large. This projection is the most used today and is known as UTM (Universal Transversal Mercator).
Advantages: It correctly represents the shapes and contours of the Earth's surface; Disadvantages: Modifies areas.
