Ludmilla was born in Duque de Caxias, a municipality located in Baixada Fluminense, in Rio de Janeiro. During her childhood, she lived in various neighborhoods in the city. Eldest daughter of Silvana Sales Oliveira, she was abandoned by her father, Luiz Antônio Silva, when she was still a baby. Ludmilla was raised by her mother, with the help of her grandmother, former stepfather and uncle, and has had no contact with her father since then. Her mother said that when the singer was only one month and 13 days old, her father was arrested, which made them face many financial difficulties. She even starved herself so that Ludmilla could eat. Until she was twelve, Ludmilla's mother worked as a samba dancer in concert halls and as a dancer in samba schools.
