It first appeared in 1910 on the menu of a Parisian café, but the origin of the name is uncertain, with several versions not entirely reliable. However, it is known that it is an adaptation of the English snack Welsh Rarebit, distinguishing itself by including ham. Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame are prepared with brioche, bread of French origin, rich in butter and eggs. They consist of a sandwich with bread, Emmental cheese, ham, béchamel cream and a fried egg.
