March 16 is Ombudsman's Day
March 16 is Ombudsman's Day in Brazil, a date created to recognize the importance of this professional in mediating between citizens and institutions. The ombudsman's office plays a fundamental role in promoting transparency, defending rights and improving public and private services.
Established by Law No. 12,632/2012, the day honors ombudsmen, who are responsible for receiving, analyzing and forwarding complaints, suggestions and compliments, ensuring an efficient communication channel between the population and companies or government agencies.
With the advancement of technology, ombudsman's offices have been modernizing, adopting digital platforms to facilitate access and speed up responses. In the public sector, the Access to Information Act (LAI) strengthened this service, ensuring greater social participation and oversight of administrative acts.
On this day, the relevance of the ombudsman is highlighted in the construction of a humanized service and in the search for solutions that improve relations between consumers, citizens and institutions, reinforcing the culture of listening and social responsibility.
