December 22nd day of Saint Francisca Xavier Cabrini
December 22nd day of Saint Francisca Xavier Cabrini. Born on July 15, 1850 in Sant'Angelo Lodigiano, Italy. Francisca, the youngest of 13 children, dedicated herself to religious life despite her delicate health. In 1877, she became Mother Superior of the Casa da Providência orphanage and, in 1880, she co-founded the Institute of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Wanting to be a missionary in China, she was sent by Pope Leo XIII to New York in 1889, where she founded 67 institutions for immigrants, especially Italians. She became a naturalized American citizen in 1909 and died of dysentery in Chicago on December 22, 1917. Beatified in 1938 and canonized in 1946, she was proclaimed Patron Saint of Migrants in 1950. Her legacy of support for those in need and her missionary vocation continue to inspire many to this day.
