December 17th day Against Violence Against Sex Workers
December 17th day Against Violence Against Sex Workers. This date was established to raise awareness about the violence and discrimination faced by sex workers around the world, as well as to honor victims of murder and abuse. The day was created in 2003, during a vigil in memory of sex workers who were murdered. The initial event took place in San Francisco, in the United States, and was organized by a group called Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP), which fights for the rights of sex workers. Since then, the day has become a global moment of mobilization and visibility for the fight against violence and stigmatization in this community.
