December 15th is Solidarity Economy
December 15th is Solidarity Economy Day in Brazil, in honor of the rubber tapper leader Chico Mendes, murdered in 1988. Established by Law 13.928/2019, the date promotes the solidarity economy as an alternative to the conventional model, where workers are also business owners, participating in decisions and sharing profits. This approach is based on principles such as self-management, democracy, cooperation and care for the environment. The solidarity economy is crucial to combating inequalities and promoting social inclusion, generating income for vulnerable communities through cooperation instead of competition.
