December 13th, Visually Impaired Persons' Day
December 13th, Visually Impaired Persons' Day, was established by Decree No. 51,405 of 1961, under the government of Jânio Quadros, to encourage solidarity and promote the rights of visually impaired people in Brazil, in alignment with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The date was chosen in honor of Saint Lucy, the widely revered patron saint of vision. This day emphasizes the importance of inclusion and accessibility, in addition to encouraging the use of assistive technologies and promoting equal opportunities for blind people in various areas of life.
