November 28th is Unknown Soldier
November 28th is Unknown Soldier Day, to honor combatants who died in battle without being identified. The date dates back to the First World War, when an unidentified soldier was buried in Westminster Abbey in the United Kingdom in 1920, inspiring other countries to erect similar monuments. In Brazil, the National Monument to the Dead of the Second World War in Rio de Janeiro houses the remains of Brazilian soldiers. In France, the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier” is located under the Arc de Triomphe, and in Portugal, the Batalha Monastery honors unidentified soldiers. In the United States, Arlington National Cemetery is known for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is rigorously guarded. This date is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel and to promote peace, remembering the importance of prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy over war.
