November 21st is Homeopathy
November 21st is Homeopathy Day, in honor of the arrival of French homeopath Dr. Benoit Jules Mure in Brazil in 1840. Dr. Mure, who settled in Rio de Janeiro, was cured of tuberculosis through homeopathy, a practice based on the Law of Similars, proposed by Hippocrates in the 4th century B.C. This law suggests that substances that cause symptoms in healthy people can be used to treat illnesses in individuals with similar symptoms. Homeopathy is based on "vital energy" and recognizes that each person has a unique way of getting sick. Homeopathic medicines, made from natural substances, treat the individual as a whole and stimulate self-healing. Since 2006, homeopathy has been recognized by the SUS and is part of the National Policy for Integrative and Complementary Practices. On National Homeopathy Day, educational activities are promoted to raise awareness of its principles and benefits.
