November 30th is Chemical Warfare Remembrance
November 30th is Chemical Warfare Remembrance Day and aims to honor those who have suffered the consequences of the use of chemical weapons. The date was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005 in response to the need to raise awareness of the devastating effects of chemical weapons and the importance of combating them. The origins of the date date back to the horrors of the First World War, when the use of toxic gas became a common tactic in battle, resulting in the suffering and death of millions of soldiers and civilians. Since then, the international community has worked to prohibit the use of chemical weapons, culminating in the Chemical Weapons Convention, which came into force in 1997. This convention aims to completely eliminate chemical weapons and prevent their use in the future.
