Tatiana Weston-Webb started surfing thanks to the influence of her parents and her brother. She is the daughter of Rio Grande do Sul bodyboarder Tanira Guimarães and surfer Doug Weston-Webb, an Englishman raised in the United States. At first, Tatiana's mother wanted her to follow in her footsteps in bodyboarding, but the influence of her brother Tony, three years her senior, pushed her towards surfing. At age 8, she got her first board and started catching waves in Hawaii. Five years later, she became national champion in the United States for the first time. Tatiana's family lives on Kauai, one of the islands in the Hawaiian archipelago. When she started out in the sport, great local surfers were an inspiration for beginners, especially three-time world champion Andy Irons.
