The name Legião Urbana is a tribute to the phrase of the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, who said: “Roman Legionnaires conquer everything”. The phrase was translated into Latin, resulting in the famous phrase “Legião Urbana Vence Tudo”. The original idea of Renato Russo and Marcelo Bonfá when founding the band was to alternate guitarists and keyboardists. Thus, the name was chosen as a way to honor these two musicians and their innovative vision.
