Flamengo and Internacional, champion and runner-up of the 1987 Copa União, refused to participate in the quadrangular with the champion and runner-up of the Yellow Module. Sport was declared official champion by the CBF. Flamengo was recognized champion only by Clube dos 13. On February 21, 2011, CBF announced the division of the 1987 Brazilian champion title between Flamengo and Sport Recife. With the decision, the year 1987 now had two Brazilian champions.
