The Belgian Shepherd
The Belgian Shepherd is a large breed with a long coat, divided into four varieties: Malinois, Groenendael, Tervueren and Laekenois. Malinois and Groenendael are the most popular. Originally from Belgium, they were initially bred to herd sheep, but have adapted well to family homes. They have distinct physical characteristics and colors, but they share intelligence, loyalty and a protective temperament. They need socialization from an early age and are good with children, although they can be clumsy with smaller ones due to their size. They can bark a lot if not trained properly. They require daily exercise and care with food and brushing to keep their health and coat in good condition.
