May 30 is the day of Joan of Arc
May 30 is the day of Joan of Arc, the anniversary of her death in 1431. Joan of Arc, also known as the "Maid of Orléans", was a French peasant girl who became a national heroine for her role in the Hundred Years' War, helping France reclaim territories occupied by the English.
Joan claimed to have received visions and divine messages instructing her to help King Charles VII regain the French throne. At just 17 years old, she led French armies in important battles, including the liberation of the city of Orléans in 1429. Her bravery and leadership were instrumental in the coronation of Charles VII at Reims.
However, in 1430, she was captured by the Burgundians (allied with the English) and handed over to England. She was tried for heresy and sentenced to death by burning at the stake on May 30, 1431, in Rouen. Later, in 1456, her conviction was overturned, and in 1920, she was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.
Joan of Arc Day is a day that honors her courage, faith, and determination, and is remembered especially in France. In addition, Joan of Arc is the patron saint of France and of soldiers, and is one of the country's most iconic historical figures.
