The Fight for Internet Freedom
March 12, Against Cyber Censorship Day, a date created to raise awareness about the importance of freedom of expression on the internet and to denounce digital censorship practices in several countries.
The initiative was launched in 2008 by the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), with the aim of defending free and unrestricted access to information online, in addition to denouncing governments and institutions that restrict citizens' right to digital communication.
Several countries adopt measures to control the internet, blocking social networks, news sites and independent platforms. In some cases, journalists and activists are persecuted for denouncing abuses of power and human rights violations.
On World Anti-Censorship Day, digital rights organizations promote campaigns to warn about the dangers of excessive control of the internet and to defend policies that guarantee a more open, safe and democratic digital environment.
