November 23rd is Cranberry Day, highlighting the red cranberry as a "super fruit" due to its antioxidant and nutritional properties. This fruit is known to help fight cystitis, urinary tract infections and cardiovascular problems, in addition to having anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Valued by North American Indians as a healing food, cranberries can be consumed in various forms, such as juice, capsules or in meals, and is an essential ingredient on Thanksgiving. It is rich in vitamins C, E and A, and phytochemicals such as polyphenols and proanthocyanidins, which protect the heart and have anticancer potential. Cranberries are effective in preventing urinary tract infections, making it difficult for bacteria to adhere to the urinary tract, in addition to strengthening the immune system. Its properties also benefit oral health and help prevent gastric ulcers.
