World Vegetarian Day is celebrated on October 1
World Vegetarian Day is celebrated on October 1 , created in 1977 by the Vegetarian Society of North America and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. The day aims to promote the benefits of a plant-based diet, both for human health and for the environment and animal rights. During this day, various activities, such as lectures and culinary events, are held to raise awareness about the impacts of meat production. In addition, initiatives such as "Meatless Monday" encourage the reduction of meat consumption, promoting a healthier and more sustainable diet. In some cultures, such as China, there are vegetarian practices on specific dates of the lunar calendar, and the Festival of the Nine Emperor Gods celebrates a nine-day vegetarian period.
