"We Are The World": The Anthem of Solidarity (1985)
The Composition: Written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, and produced by Quincy Jones, the song was created for the USA for Africa project.
The Purpose: To raise funds to combat extreme hunger in Ethiopia. The song brought together 45 of the world’s biggest music stars (such as Bruce Springsteen and Tina Turner).
The Impact: The single sold over 20 million copies, becoming the best-selling charity single of all time and raising more than $63 million for the cause.
Heal the World and the Legacy at Neverland
The Foundation: In 1992, he created the Heal the World Foundation, dedicated to helping underprivileged children in war zones and poverty.
