The Eagle Pose for Balance and Strength
Garudasana, or Eagle Pose, is inspired by Garuda, a figure described in ancient texts as the king of birds and guardian against destructive forces. This mythological image, associated with strength and mental clarity, influenced the development of the asana, which remains part of practices aimed at balance and emotional stability.
The pose follows a precise sequence: start standing with weight evenly distributed; then cross one leg over the other, wrapping the opposite calf. The arms also cross, raising the forearms until the hands touch or remain parallel. The gaze is fixed on a point ahead to aid balance, while breathing stays deep and steady.
Key benefits include strengthening the ankles and legs, stretching the upper back, and expanding the chest. The compression from the entwining stimulates circulation, improves coordination, and generally calms the mind, reducing accumulated tension.
