Trikonasana: Balance & Strength
Trikonasana, or Triangle Pose, is a yoga asana that strengthens the legs, stretches muscles, and opens the chest, promoting both physical and mental balance. This practice helps reduce stress, anxiety, and blood pressure, while improving circulation and focus. There are two main variations: Utthita Trikonasana (Extended Triangle) and Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle), the latter being more advanced due to spinal rotation and greater abdominal engagement.
In the Extended Triangle, keep the feet apart, arms parallel to the floor, and legs strong. The lower hand can rest on the ankle, shin, or a yoga block, while the upper arm extends in line with the shoulders. This pose requires balance, activating the thighs and core while respecting the body’s limits. The Revolved Triangle adds a twist of the pelvis and torso, demanding attention to protect the spine and maintain stability.
Benefits include stretching the spine and hamstrings, toning hips, legs, and arms, relieving back pain and sciatica, stimulating abdominal organs, and improving overall posture.
