Located in the heart of Volta Redonda
Located in the heart of Volta Redonda, Praça Brasil is one of the city's most iconic tourist attractions. Its construction began on February 2, 1954, with the cornerstone laid by then-President Getúlio Vargas, a gesture that symbolized the importance of public space for the planned urban development of the “Steel City”. The official inauguration took place on January 24, 1957, with the distinguished presence of President Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira, reinforcing the political and social prestige of the place at the time.
Designed as a space for socializing and leisure, Praça Brasil was conceived within the modern urban planning model that accompanied the creation of Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) and the city's rapid growth. Its geometric gardens, wooded areas and wide public walkways reflect the planning designed to meet the needs of a growing population, made up mostly of industrial workers.
Today, the square continues to be a stage for cultural events, fairs, civic events and popular gatherings. It is also a must-see for those who wish to discover the historical soul of Volta Redonda, where past and present meet amidst the architecture and collective memory of the city.
