Zumbi dos Palmares Memorial
Opened on June 1, 1990, the Zumbi dos Palmares Memorial is one of the most symbolic tourist attractions in Volta Redonda. Designed by architect Selso Dal Bello, the space was created with the aim of valuing Afro-Brazilian culture and preserving the memory of the black people's struggle for freedom, equality and recognition.
Located in the Vila Santa Cecília neighborhood, the memorial pays homage to Zumbi, leader of the Quilombo dos Palmares and an icon of resistance against slavery in Brazil. The structure was designed as a cultural center open to the community, where exhibitions, lectures, workshops, educational activities and events are held that celebrate the history and contributions of the black population in the formation of the country.
In addition to its important educational role, the Zumbi dos Palmares Memorial is also a space for coexistence, reflection and dialogue. Visitors can see works of art, historical collections, sculptures and murals that portray the trajectory of Afro-descendants in Brazil, in addition to participating in affirmative and cultural actions promoted throughout the year.
For those seeking to learn more about the cultural roots of the steel city, the memorial is a must-see and offers a rich learning experience and respect for diversity.
