Adverbial clauses
Adverbial clauses, or adverbial clauses, are parts of the sentence that function as adverbs, explaining when, why, how, where or under what condition something happens.
They always have a connector (subordinating conjunction), such as because, although, if, when, while, as soon as, etc.
Time (time):
I’ll call you when I arrive.
(I’ll call you when I arrive.)
Cause/reason(cause):
She stayed home because she was sick.
(She stayed home because she was sick. sick.)
Condition (condition):
If it rains, we’ll stay inside.
(If it rains, we’ll stay inside.)
Contrast (contrast):
Although he was tired, he kept working.
(Although he was tired, he kept working.)
Purpose (purpose):
She studies hard so that she can pass the exam.
(She studies hard so that she can pass.)
