March 21 is Forests and Trees Day
March 21 is Forests and Trees Day, a date established by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness about the importance of forests and encourage environmental preservation actions around the world.
Forests play a fundamental role in regulating the climate, conserving biodiversity and producing oxygen. They are also essential to the lives of millions of people, providing natural resources and protecting fragile ecosystems. However, deforestation and environmental degradation continue to threaten these biomes.
To mark the date, governments, NGOs and institutions carry out educational campaigns, tree planting and debates on sustainability. In Brazil, the country with the largest tropical forest in the world, the Amazon, the date reinforces the need for conservation policies and sustainable use of natural resources.
The International Day of Forests and Trees reminds us that protecting forests is ensuring environmental balance and quality of life for future generations.
