March 18 is the day of the Order of DeMolay
March 18 is the day of the Order of DeMolay, which was created in 1919 by Frank Sherman Land, after an encounter with the young orphan Louis Gordon Lower, who needed guidance. The initial idea was to bring together young people to form a club, promoting values of citizenship and fraternity. The name was inspired by Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar, martyred in 1314, representing loyalty and courage.
The organization, aimed at young people between the ages of 12 and 21, seeks to form conscious and caring citizens. Since its founding, the Order of DeMolay has expanded to several countries, including Brazil.
Recognized for its social contribution, the Order of DeMolay was officially celebrated in Brazil with Law No. 12,208, of 2010, which established DeMolay Day on March 18, the date that marks the martyrdom of Jacques de Molay. The date is a way to honor the values of fraternity, loyalty and commitment to society, promoting philanthropic actions and the development of young people.
