The Saint of Lost Things
March 15th is the day of Saint Longinus, popularly known as the saint of lost things. According to Catholic tradition, Saint Longinus was the Roman soldier who, when he pierced the side of Jesus Christ with a spear during the crucifixion, was cured of a vision deficiency when he was touched by the blood of Christ. His story of conversion and faith has made him a symbol of devotion among Christians.
The custom of asking Saint Longinus for help in finding missing objects comes from ancient popular beliefs. It is said that whoever makes a request to the saint and promises to jump three times when finding the lost item will have their request granted. This practice has been practiced for generations and continues to be a tradition among devotees.
March 15th is an occasion to honor Saint Longinus with prayers and thanksgiving. Churches and Catholic communities hold masses and celebrations in his memory, reinforcing his importance in the Christian faith.
