March 4 is the feast day of Saint Casimir
March 4 is the feast day of Saint Casimir, in honor of the Polish saint known for his life of devotion, faith, and dedication to those in need. Saint Casimir was born in 1458 in Krakow, Poland, and was the son of King Casimir IV of Poland. He is especially remembered for his austere life and his work for social justice and the poor, despite his royal position.
During his life, Saint Casimir was noted for his commitment to the Catholic faith and his concern for those in need. He chose to follow a life of celibacy and dedicated himself to serving his community. As a young man, Casimir was appointed to a diplomatic mission, but chose to return to Poland to live a life of prayer and charity rather than become involved in politics. His spiritual journey and dedication to the Church made him an example of virtue and piety.
Saint Casimir died in 1484 at the age of 25, probably from an illness he contracted while caring for people affected by an epidemic. His legacy, however, lives on to this day, and he is considered the patron saint of Poland, as well as of young people, students and workers.
