March 2, the day of Saint Simplicius
March 2, the day of Saint Simplicius, is celebrated by the Catholic Church, honoring the pope who led the Church between 468 and 483, during the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
Born in Tivoli, Italy, he stood out in the defense of the faith against heresies such as Monophysitism and Nestorianism, seeking to maintain the unity of the Church amid schisms and political crises.
During the invasion of Rome, he helped the people by distributing alms and ensuring the functioning of the basilicas. He also founded important churches, such as those of San Stefano Rotondo and Santa Bibiana.
Respected by the faithful and rulers, he died on March 2, 483 and was buried in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. His relics remain in his hometown, Tivoli. His memory inspires faith, courage and commitment to the truth.
