March 1 is Kidney Cancer Awareness
March 1 is Kidney Cancer Awareness Day. During this month, health organizations and support groups around the world promote actions to increase understanding of kidney cancer, a type of cancer that affects the kidneys, the organs responsible for filtering waste and excess fluids from the body.
The goal of Red March is to educate the population about the risk factors, symptoms and treatments for kidney cancer, as well as to encourage early detection. Among the best-known risk factors are smoking, obesity, high blood pressure and a family history of kidney cancer. However, many cases do not present obvious early symptoms, which makes awareness and early diagnosis even more essential.
During the month of March, several initiatives are carried out to promote prevention and early diagnosis, including information campaigns, lectures, distribution of educational materials and fundraising events for research. Additionally, the use of the color red as a symbol of the month helps draw attention to the cause, with several organizations and individuals participating in activities, wearing red clothing, and sharing information on social media.
