January 18th is Krav Maga
January 18th is Krav Maga Day in Brazil, in honor of this self-defense art created in Israel and widely spread in the country. The date was chosen to highlight the importance of Krav Maga as a tool for self-defense, discipline and empowerment for people of all ages and physical conditions.
Krav Maga, which means "contact combat" in Hebrew, was developed by Imi Lichtenfeld, a fighter and trainer of Jewish origin, to meet the self-defense needs of the Israeli security forces. The practice is based on simple, fast and effective movements, which use realistic techniques to efficiently neutralize threats.
In Brazil, Krav Maga gained popularity in the 1990s, when it was introduced by Israeli master Kobi Lichtenstein, who founded the first South American Krav Maga Federation. Since then, the practice has gained followers who seek not only to learn self-defense, but also to improve their confidence and physical conditioning.
