Celebration of World Mazapán Day
January 12th is Mazapan Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the history and popularity of this traditional sweet, enjoyed in many cultures around the world. Made primarily from almonds and sugar, mazapán is a sweet delicacy that has deep roots in the cuisine of European and Latin American countries.
Origin and Tradition of Mazapán
Known for its smooth texture and sweet flavor, mazapán is consumed in many parts of the world, especially during holidays and celebrations. Although its origins date back to the Middle Ages in the Iberian Peninsula, the sweet is largely associated with Spanish and Mexican culture, where it is traditionally served during Christmas and other important festivities.
Made from almond paste and sugar, mazapán can vary in shape and decoration, being molded into small figures, such as fruits, animals and other festive elements. Over the centuries, it has spread to other countries and has undergone variations, but the basic recipe remains the same.
Celebrations Around the World
In many Latin American countries, Día Mundial del Mazapán is a time to remember the tradition of the sweet treat and celebrate it with homemade recipes or those purchased at bakeries.
