Sphynx cats are known for their soft, nearly hairless skin
Sphynx cats are known for their soft, nearly hairless skin. Despite their naked appearance, some may have a thin layer of short, silky fur that feels pleasant to the touch. The breed was developed in Canada in the 1960s through selective crossings between hairless cats and other breeds, such as Devon Rex and American Shorthairs.
Physical Characteristics
The Sphynx has a muscular, well-proportioned body with an angular head, large ears, and expressive, usually round eyes. Its exotic appearance contrasts with its soft-to-the-touch skin, making it unique among domestic cats.
Temperament and Behavior
It is a highly sociable, affectionate, and playful cat. It enjoys being near people and often seeks human companionship, making it an excellent pet for families and individuals who appreciate attention and affection.
Care and Health
Due to the lack of fur, the Sphynx requires regular baths to remove excess skin oils and prevent dermatological problems. It also needs protection from extreme temperatures. While generally healthy, it can be prone to skin issues, such as rashes and fungal infections, requiring ongoing care and attention.
