The Tree Pose, or Vrksasana, is valued in yoga for combining tradition, symbolism, and physical benefits recognized over the centuries. In Hatha Yoga, balancing on one leg was practiced by sages to develop mental steadiness and emotional stability, comparing the posture to the deep roots of a tree.
The pose is appreciated for its simple execution and immediate effects. To practice it, start standing with your weight evenly distributed. Then shift your support to one leg, placing the opposite foot on the calf or inner thigh, with the knee pointing outward. Keep the torso upright, the abdomen engaged, and the arms raised above the head. The gaze remains fixed on a point ahead, helping maintain balance.
