Preserves History and Memory
Vila Nova de Paiva, in the district of Viseu, is a municipality full of historical and cultural heritage, and its museums play an essential role in preserving this rich heritage. Among them, the following stand out:
The Pendilhe Rural Museum, located in the parish of Pendilhe, was created to preserve and promote the traditions and way of life of rural communities. The museum exhibits a vast collection of objects and utensils from rural daily life, such as agricultural tools, household utensils and remains of ancient crafts, providing visitors with a journey through time to understand the practices and knowledge of the inhabitants of Beira Alta.
The Alto Paiva Archaeological Museum, in turn, focuses on the rich prehistoric and archaeological history of the region. Highlighting dolmens, hill forts and other remains from the Iron Age and Roman period, the museum brings together pieces such as ceramics, stone tools and funerary objects, offering a detailed look at the first communities that inhabited the territory.
The Migration Memory Centre celebrates the history of migrations and the Portuguese diaspora, a particularly relevant theme in Vila Nova de Paiva, which, like many other municipalities in the interior, saw many of its families emigrate over the centuries.
