May 6 day of Edwards Syndrome
May 6 day of Edwards Syndrome, our goal is to increase awareness of Trissomia 18, a rare and serious genetic condition that affects the development of babies. This data seeks to inform about the challenges faced by children with Edwards Syndrome and their families, in addition to promoting the importance of social and medical support for these children.
Edwards Syndrome, also known as Trissomia 18, occurs when a baby is born with an extra copy of chromosome 18. It can cause a series of serious complications, such as heart defects, respiratory difficulties, delays in physical and intellectual development and, in many cases, limited life expectancy. Approximately 1 in every 5,000 births is affected by the condition, and most of the babies do not survive the first year of life.
This data also serves to support scientific research and encourage early diagnosis and specialized medical support, which can improve the quality of life of affected children. Organizations and support groups play a fundamental role, offering resources for families and promoting even children with Trissomia 18 in various communities.
