March 15 is Combat Islamophobia
March 15 is Combat Islamophobia Day, a date established by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness about discrimination against Muslims and promote respect for religious diversity. The date was chosen in memory of the attack on the Christchurch mosque in New Zealand, which occurred in 2019.
Islamophobia manifests itself in many ways, including prejudice, hate speech and acts of violence against Muslims and their communities. The aim of the date is to reinforce the importance of inter-religious dialogue, tolerance and the construction of more inclusive societies free from discrimination.
International organizations, governments and activists promote campaigns and events to warn about the dangers of prejudice and encourage public policies that guarantee equal rights for all. In Brazil and around the world, this initiative aims to strengthen the fight against intolerance and reaffirm the principles of religious freedom and respect for cultural diversity.
