Explore more about The Mercator Projection, one of the most widely used maps in the world, is not only a cartographic tool, but also carries a strong geopolitical meaning. Created in the 16th century by cartographer Gerardus Mercator to aid navigation, this projection preserves angles and directions, but distorts the real size of countries and continents. Regions close to the poles, such as Europe and North America, appear much larger than they actually are, while areas close to the equator, such as Africa and South America, are reduced.
This distortion reinforces historical inequalities, giving the impression that countries in the Northern Hemisphere are more important or dominant. For centuries, this view has influenced international politics, economics and even the cultural perception of nations. Alternatives such as the Gall-Peters Projection attempt to correct these inequalities by representing the continents in their real sizes, but they face resistance due to the consolidated use of the Mercator projection. The debate over maps and geopolitical power continues, showing that the way we see the world can influence the way we think about it...

Explore more about The Braille system is a form of tactile writing developed for people with visual impairments, consisting of six dots organized into two columns of three dots. This code allows texts to be read and written, including signs exclusive to the Portuguese language. Created by Louis Braille in 1824, it was officially accepted in 1843. Braille, who became blind at the age of five, was looking for a way to expand access to knowledge for the visually impaired.
The system arrived in Brazil in the 19th century, being introduced by José Álvares de Azevedo, a student at the Royal Institute for the Young Blind in Paris, where Braille was being tested. In 1854, the Imperial Institute for Blind Boys, now known as the Benjamin Constant Institute, was founded in Rio de Janeiro.
Braille is read tactilely, from left to right, and can be unimanual or bimanual. Writing, on the other hand, although essential for autonomy, is more complex. Braille offers social inclusion, allowing greater accessibility and independence for the visually impaired. There are several courses and materials to learn the system, adapted to each person

Explore more about Neologisms are new words or expressions that appear in a language, either to name concepts, objects or phenomena that did not previously exist. They can arise due to the need for cultural adaptation, technological changes or even social innovations. The use of neologisms reflects the dynamics and evolution of languages.
There are two main types of neologism: formal or lexical, which refers to the creation of a new word, such as "selfie" (a photo taken of oneself), and conceptual or semantic, which occurs when an existing word takes on a new meaning, such as "mouse", which was previously just "rato" and now also refers to a computer device.
It is important to highlight the difference between neologism and loanword. While a neologism is a new word or a new use of an existing word in the language, loanword refers to the borrowing of words from other languages, such as "marketing" or "web". Loanisms are not original creations of the language, but rather adaptations of foreign words that still preserve their original form.
These linguistic processes demonstrate how language is constantly changing, reflecting society and the changes that accompany it...
