February 23, the day of the Brazilian Municipalist Movement
February 23, the day of the Brazilian Municipalist Movement, highlights the importance of municipalities in the political, social and economic development of the country. Established by Law 12.639/2012, the date recognizes the fight for greater autonomy, resources and public policies that improve the quality of life of the population.
The date also honors the work of the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM), created in 1986, and state associations, such as the Minas Gerais Association of Municipalities (AMM), which strengthen local governance and promote unity among mayors, councilors and leaders in the search for advances in health, education and other vital areas.
The municipalist movement reinforces the leading role of municipalities and the importance of public management close to the population, aiming at the construction of a more just and efficient society.
