February 22 is Freemason's Day
Today is Freemason's Day in honor of George Washington, a great Freemason and historical figure who, after his fight for the independence of the United States, opted for the Democratic Republic as a form of government. The date was suggested by Teixeira during the Annual Meeting of the Grand Masters of the Grand Lodges of North America in 1994, and made official in Brazil in 1995 by the Grand Orient of Brazil.
The choice of the day is due to Washington's birthday, who was born in 1732. Initiated into Freemasonry in 1752, Washington was an important defender of freedom and democracy, becoming the first president of the United States. In 1789, he took the oath on the Bible of the Alexandria Lodge, where he was Worshipful Master. Washington died in 1799, and his funeral had a Masonic ceremony.
