February 4th is Cancer Day
February 4th is Cancer Day, with the aim of raising awareness about the disease, encouraging prevention and promoting global actions that strengthen treatment and support for patients. Created by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the date brings together governments, health organizations and communities in a joint effort to reduce the impact of cancer worldwide.
The Impact of Cancer Globally
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, accounting for around 10 million deaths each year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Many of these cases could be prevented with lifestyle changes, early diagnosis and access to appropriate treatments. World Cancer Day highlights the importance of addressing inequalities in cancer care and reinforces the need for resources for research, diagnosis and care.
