Orange February
Orange February is an annual campaign dedicated to raising awareness about leukemia, a type of cancer that affects the tissues responsible for blood formation, such as bone marrow. Throughout the month of February, educational actions are carried out to alert the population about the importance of early diagnosis, the symptoms of the disease and the donation of bone marrow, which can save lives.
Leukemia is characterized by the abnormal production of white blood cells, which affects the immune system and the functioning of the body. The most common symptoms include extreme fatigue, persistent fever, weight loss, purple spots on the skin, frequent infections and anemia.
The campaign seeks to inform the population about the signs of leukemia and encourage bone marrow donation, a relatively simple procedure that can offer the only chance of a cure for many patients. Bone marrow donation is rare, which makes it essential to increase the number of donors registered in bone marrow banks.
Health organizations, hospitals and NGOs promote activities such as lectures, donor registration drives and social media campaigns throughout the month. The color orange symbolizes energy, vitality and hope in the fight against the disease.
