January 26 is Customs Day
January 26 is Customs Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the essential work carried out by customs authorities in international trade. Established by the World Customs Organization (WCO), the day aims to highlight the importance of customs for global security, trade facilitation and the protection of society.
On this day, awareness-raising activities are promoted on the role of customs in controlling transnational goods, preventing illicit activities such as drug, arms and counterfeit goods trafficking, as well as ensuring tax collection and protecting the local economy. Customs also play a key role in enforcing environmental and food safety standards, ensuring that products crossing borders comply with international laws and regulations.
The Day also aims to promote collaboration between customs authorities of different countries, emphasizing the need for an efficient and coordinated global system to deal with the increase in international trade.
