January 28th is the day of Saint Thomas Aquinas
January 28th is the day of Saint Thomas Aquinas, a date dedicated to the great philosopher and theologian of the Middle Ages, considered one of the most influential thinkers of the Catholic Church. Saint Thomas Aquinas was born in 1225, in Italy, and is known for his monumental work, the Summa Theologica, in which he sought to reconcile the Christian faith with human reason, based on Aristotelian philosophy.
Canonized in 1323 and proclaimed Doctor of the Church in 1567, Saint Thomas Aquinas is revered as the patron saint of students and teachers, especially in the areas of philosophy, theology and science. His work had a profound impact on the development of scholastic theology, laying the foundations for Catholic teaching in medieval and modern Europe.
January 28, in addition to being a religious celebration, is marked by reflections on the importance of rational thought in the search for truth and the deepening of knowledge, aligning reason and faith, central values in Thomist doctrine. Catholic churches and schools around the world hold masses, lectures and educational activities in his honor.
