January 28th is the day of the Labor Inspector
January 28th is the day of the Labor Inspector, a date that honors the professionals responsible for ensuring compliance with labor laws in Brazil and promoting decent working conditions throughout the country.
The choice of the day is a reference to the tragic Unaí Massacre, which occurred in 2004, when four employees of the Ministry of Labor – three inspectors and a driver – were murdered while carrying out a rural inspection in Unaí, Minas Gerais. The episode left a deep mark on the history of the category and reinforced the importance of the fight for the protection of labor rights and the safety of auditors in their duties.
The date seeks not only to pay tribute to tax auditors, but also to highlight the essential role they play in eradicating slave labor, formalizing jobs, protecting the health and safety of workers, and combating labor fraud.
Throughout the country, the day is marked by events, tributes, and reflections on the challenges faced by labor auditors, in addition to actions to raise awareness in society about the relevance of this profession for social justice and economic development.
