January 24th is African and Afro-descendant Culture Day
January 24th is African and Afro-descendant Culture Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting the rich cultural diversity of African and Afro-descendant populations around the world. The date was established by UNESCO in 2019, with the aim of recognizing and valuing the contributions of African cultures to humanity, as well as encouraging respect, equality and solidarity among peoples.
The celebration aims to highlight the traditions, stories and cultural expressions of African and Afro-descendant communities, which have a huge influence on various aspects of art, music, literature, cuisine and spirituality in different countries. Furthermore, the World Day for African and Afro-descendant Culture seeks to raise awareness of the challenges that these populations still face, such as racism, discrimination and marginalization.
On this day, various activities are held around the world, such as festivals, exhibitions, lectures and artistic performances, which promote the recognition of African and Afro-descendant cultures, highlighting the importance of preserving them and passing them on to new generations.
