January 17 is the day of the Courts of Auditors
January 17 is the day of the Courts of Auditors in Brazil, the date that marks the establishment of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) in 1893.
The TCU, provided for in the Federal Constitution, plays a fundamental role in the accounting, financial, budgetary, operational and patrimonial oversight of the Union and its administrative entities. Its mission is to ensure that public resources are used efficiently and in accordance with the interests of society.
In addition to the TCU, Brazil has 27 state Courts of Auditors and some municipalities have their own courts, all of which work to ensure transparency and accountability in public management.
The celebration of the Day of the Courts of Auditors reinforces the importance of these institutions in strengthening democracy and promoting good governance, highlighting the ongoing commitment to the oversight and control of public spending for the benefit of Brazilian society.
