December 24th Orphan's Day
December 24th Orphan's Day in Brazil, was created in 1961 by Decree No. 50,912 with the aim of promoting solidarity and raising awareness in society about the situation of children and adolescents who lost their parents or guardians. The date coincides with Christmas Eve, encouraging gestures of support and affection, such as visits to orphanages and donations. According to the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), orphans have the right to be raised in a family environment, with their extended family or, in extreme cases, through adoption or institutional care.
